Oprah

If there is one person that I could credit for introducing me to most of the new books, authors, deep thinkers and generally fascinating people it would be Oprah!

Over the years I watched her program and found Maya Angelou, Eckhart Tolle, Brene Brown, Martha Beck and David Brooks, to name but a few. Which have then lead me to discover other authors in their genres.

The Oprah Quilt

I love the honesty that she brings to whatever she does and her insight is something that will always keep me coming back to her books, her podcasts, her shows. When I am low or struggling with something, it will be her that I switch on to get inspiration from.

All of the new authors I have discovered in the last 5 years have come from her podcasts and shows.

Her wisdom has been a constant over the last 10 years, which has marked much change for us as a family and many road blocks. And knowing how much of an impact she has had on my life, I wanted her to be the final quilt I make during this year of inspirational women.

The quilt itself has the most number of pieces in a quilt that I have ever made – 2,937 pieces to be exact, in 10 different colours and is 72″ x 54″

The backing is a very special print that I discovered on spoonflower and is a nod to the love that she has for her dogs, which I 1000% understand!

Whilst researching Oprah, I saw that her and Gayle had driven through Tulsa as part of a road trip they did (and they had one of the biggest arguments of their friendship) I also became aware that her network covered the Tulsa Race Massacre in some detail, so it seemed only right and fitting that I take the quilt to be photographed in front of a Skip Hill mural, in what was Black Wall Street here in Tulsa.

So now, I will reach out to her office to see if I can send her the quilt, as a thank you for all the inspiration and close this year of inspirational women on a true high.
