Queen Elizabeth II

On 6th February 2022 the Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne. The official celebrations happen on June 2nd on the Queens Birthday parade.

Living away from home during such a celebration, which I know the whole country, not to mention our own friends and family will be celebrating, is hard. There is something special when a whole country celebrates together.

But I also didn’t want the occasion to slip by unnoticed here in Tulsa, for my family. So right from when I started this ‘one quilt a month journey, celebrating inspirational women’ I knew the Queen would absolutely be Ms June.

The Queen has always, to me, been a woman of dignity, decorum and strength. A constant, someone who, over the years has listened to the public and made changes when they needed to be made to an old and sometime antiquated system.

Taking on the role of Queen after the death of her father, at the tender age of 26 kinda blows my mind.

The quilt is 72″ x 54″ and is made up of 2,701 pieces of fabric.

The crown and earring have over 2,500 gold beads hand sewn onto them and the whole quilt took in the region of 100 hours to make.

I love every part of this quilt, it is definitely my favourite yet.

Its colours and sparkle give it a depth that I just love and I would love the opportunity to give it to Her Majesty as thank you for all her work and years of dedication to the country and the commonwealth.

Actually contacting the palace is a process you can only do by letter and they will not accept unsolicited gifts so I am not sure I will ever be able to send it to her. But you never know, maybe someone somewhere will see it and fate will find a way!

I took her to the Leadership Tulsa building with the amazing golden driller mural to photograph, as I wanted something in the photo to reflect where we live now – Tulsa.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I may reach Her Majesty with this gift, feel free to send me an email! dee@pixelquilts.com
